Karen Oliver is the Director of Finance and Administration for Smart Growth America. She manages the usually invisible but important functions of accounting and finance, facilities and operations, human resources and information technology.
Prior to joining Smart Growth America, Karen served as the Director of Finance and Administration for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, and Sister Cities International. Earlier she was a member of the nonprofit management consulting team for Orr Associates. Between 2014 and 2017 Karen served as a city council member for the City of Falls Church, Virginia. She was chair of the budget and finance committee and served as liaison to the Architectural Advisory Board, the Citizen’s Advisory Committee on Transportation, the Library Board of Trustees, and the Retirement Board. Karen has a BS in Engineering from Swarthmore College, and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. She has ten years of prior experience in the for-profit sector, and also served for six years on the boards of the International School of Islamabad and the American Embassy School in New Delhi.
