Evelyn Mitchell

Evelyn Mitchell is the Senior Manager of Coalitions and Outreach for the Land Use and Development team. Evelyn’s interests in education, city planning, and the direct impacts on her former students’ day to day lives sparked her interest in community and urban planning.

As an urban planning professional with an equity lens to her work, Evelyn strongly believes that justice ensures all stakeholders are included in decision-making conversations and processes that directly impact the spaces in which they live.

Prior to joining Smart Growth America, Evelyn was a K-12 teacher in Texas; Land Use Planner and Equity Lead for Fairfax County’s Department of Planning and Development; and has worked as the Equitable Development Manager for the 11th St. Bridge Park project. It was here that she managed programs under workforce development, small business, and housing areas. In addition, Evelyn worked with Justice and Sustainability Associates as an associate, managing projects on consensus building and mediation for non-profits, local governments, and higher education institutions.

Evelyn holds a B.A. in Political Science from Austin College and a M.S. in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas, Austin.
