“Dangerous by Design 2016” is coming

Where is it most dangerous to be a pedestrian in the United States?

On January 10, 2017, Smart Growth America will release Dangerous by Design 2016, our flagship report about the American epidemic of pedestrian deaths. The forthcoming research will identify the most dangerous places in the nation to be a pedestrian, and will examine who is most at risk of being struck and killed by a car while walking.

Now in its seventh year, the 2016 edition will include new Pedestrian Danger Index numbers for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In addition, the analysis will expand our examination of metro areas from 51 to 104 regions around the country.

Join us for the kickoff of this new research on January 10, 2017. We will be hosting an online discussion starting at 1 p.m. EST, and invite you to join us:

Join the discussion to hear from the researchers, national transportation policy experts, and local advocates for community safety. We will be taking questions about the findings on Twitter at the hashtag #DangerousByDesign

Registrants will be the first to see the new report when it comes out in January. Sign up to be the first to see the new rankings and analysis.

Policymakers at the local, state, and national level can and must take action to protect people from being struck and killed by cars while walking. Dangerous by Design 2016 outlines where to focus these actions and the first steps to making it happen.

I hope you’ll join us for the launch in January to learn more.
