Come for Street Lights, stay for Capital Ideas II

There’s much that can be done at the state level to incentivize and implement Complete Streets, as well as other supportive transportation policies that lead to more equitable, prosperous places. To go in-depth on state policy specifically, we encourage you to stay in Sacramento after Street Lights—register for Transportation for America’s Capital Ideas conference on November 16-17, 2016, immediately following Street Lights.

State policy is crucial

California’s groundbreaking shift away from a narrow focus on moving as many cars as fast as possible when planning transportation investments in cities large and small was made possible through state legislation. Hear from some of the experts who were involved in California’s move to dump “level of service”—an engineering metric—and shift to a more holistic view by measuring a street’s performance against a broader list of other important goals, like developing safe and accessible transportation options for residents or promoting diverse land uses and infill development.

An impressive list of speakers will be on hand for Capital Ideas, including:

  • Del. Brooke Lierman, Maryland House of Delegates
  • Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, Georgia House of Representatives
  • Darrell Steinberg, Mayor-Elect, City of Sacramento
  • Malcolm Dougherty, Director, CalTrans
  • Denny Zane, Executive Director, Move LA
  • Susan Shaheen, Co-Director, Transportation Sustainability Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley

Many more are confirmed. Download the full agenda and register here.
