Taking place on November 15, 2016 in Sacramento, CA, this day-long conference will be a chance for transportation planners and engineers, community, equity, and health advocates, local officials, and Complete Streets practitioners to share ideas, brainstorm solutions, and celebrate the success of the Complete Streets movement nationwide. There’s much that can be done at the state level to incentivize and implement Complete Streets, as well as other supportive transportation policies that lead to more equitable, prosperous places. State policy is crucial
California’s groundbreaking shift away from a narrow focus on moving as many cars as fast as possible when planning transportation investments in cities large and small was made possible through state legislation. Hear from some of the experts who were involved in California’s move to dump “level of service”—an engineering metric—and shift to a more holistic view by measuring a street’s performance against a broader list of other important goals, like developing safe and accessible transportation options for residents or promoting diverse land uses and infill development.
