We’re doing a special blog series highlighting some of Smart Growth America’s favorite accomplishments from 2012. This is the fourth of twelve installments.
In July, we celebrated the three year anniversary of the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, a groundbreaking collaboration between the Department of Transportation, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Partnership works to coordinate federal investments in housing, transportation, and other infrastructure to make neighborhoods more prosperous, help families save money, and reduce pollution. The Partnership agencies incorporate six principles of livability into their programs, policies, and future legislative proposals, and provide grant support for communities and cities across the nation. During debates over the 2012 federal budget, legislators initially proposed eliminating much of the funding for these important programs. As Congress prepares to negotiate 2013’s budget, this funding will once again be up for debate. Tell your members of Congress that you support smart growth at the federal level: speak out for the Partnership for Sustainable Communities.
