The Form-Based Codes Institute is in the zone

Tomorrow continues a month full of zoning-related webinars and releases for the Form-Based Codes Institute with the announcement of the winner of the fifteenth annual Driehaus Form-Based Code Award. An upcoming webinar on October 18th featuring experts from across development and economic research to discuss the Form-Based Institute’s first-of-its-kind report Zoned In: Economic Benefits & Shared Prosperity with Form-Based Codes follows, with the opening class of FBCI’s most popular introductory course, FBC 101: The ABCs of Form-Based Codes making its virtual debut the first week of November. Read on for more.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 12, the fifteenth annual Driehaus Form-Based Code Award winner will be announced! The 2021 Driehaus Award jury met last month to select a winning code from this year’s nominations. Each year, the jury searches for a code that contains provisions and innovations that will serve as a model for other communities and code writers and significantly advance the practice.

As the quality of the codes submitted improves over the years, selecting a winner is more of a challenge. But one stood out above the others and the winning code will be announced tomorrow, so watch your inboxes (If you aren’t already subscribed to announcements from the Form-Based Codes Institute, you can sign up here).

On October 18 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern, join us for The Impact of Form-Based Codes: Exploring the Zoned In Report + the 2021 Driehaus Award Winner.

The winning Driehaus team will share why they decided to adopt a form-based code, how they went about drafting the code, and the lessons they learned along the way. The webinar will also feature a discussion about our newly released report, Zoned In: Economic Benefits & Shared Prosperity with Form-Based Codes. Panelists will reflect on the report’s important findings that show places with form-based codes generally experience a greater increase in property values and tax revenues, maintain their values better, attract a wider range of housing types, attract more investment, and generate more employment than similar areas with more conventional zoning.
