Alex Twining, President and CEO, Twining Properties | New England Developer of the Year
New England Developer of the Year
For over 30 years, Alex Twining, President and CEO of Twining Properties has been involved in the construction of transit-oriented development projects. Throughout his development career, Mr. Twining has focused on investing, planning, and developing in locations that are close to mass transit along AMTRAK’s Northeast Corridor from Boston to Washington, DC. Mr. Twining’s strategy integrates capital, design, construction, marketing, and public goals into creative solutions that achieve superior results.
Mr. Twining led the development of Watermark Kendall West, a 24-story, certified LEED EB Gold, mixed-use tower with 321 apartments and 25,000 square feet of retail, located near a high-tech employment cluster surrounding Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge and completed in 2006. In 2013, Twining Properties and its partners completed phase II of Watermark Kendall East a 18-story, LEED Gold certified mixed-use building includes 144 apartments and 10,000 square feet retail.
Mr. Twining has served as a leader in promoting transit-oriented development throughout the northeast. He currently serves on the editorial board of TOD LINE, a website produced by the Land Use Law Center for Sustainable Development at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY. The project highlights transit-oriented development projects in southern New York and western Connecticut, and provides professionals and municipal leaders with a forum for the collection of information about regional advances and experiences in transit-oriented development.
The HYM Investment Group, LLC | New England Investment Company of the Year
New England Investment Company of the Year
The HYM Investment Group is a Boston-based owner, investor, developer, and manager of commercial and multi-family real estate, with a particular focus on complicated mixed-use, transit-oriented, urban redevelopments.
For over 35 years, HYM’s successful track record in planning, permitting, financing, constructing and managing complicated mixed-use developments in both Boston and Cambridge has set it apart from other investors in New England.
HYM’s most impressive project to date is the redevelopment of the Government Center Garage. This project will transform a blighted 1960’s relic of Boston’s urban renewal into a dynamic new destination in a thriving 24-hour neighborhood. Removing 60 percent of the above-grade garage will create a new, engaging public plaza and unlock a central urban view corridor, blocked for the past 55 years. The redevelopment is uniquely designed to utilize a strategic phasing mechanism to reconnect some of Boston’s most established neighborhoods, including the Bulfinch Triangle, the West End, the North End, Beacon Hill, and Downtown.
HYM understands the power of community, the importance of public input in the development process, and values community engagement as an essential way to assure sustainable and economically viable projects that enhance existing local assets and are well integrated into their surrounding areas.
LOCUS’s 2015 New England Leadership Awards will be presented at the 2015 LOCUS New England Leadership Summit. The winners will receive a complimentary one-year LOCUS Premier membership, will be featured in LOCUS’ monthly newsletter and our website, and are automatically nominated for LOCUS’s National Leadership Award, to be awarded at our National Summit in June.
Congratulations to Mr. Alex Twining and HYM Investment Group, true embodiments of the spirit and mission of LOCUS. We applaud them for their dedication to revitalizing urban locations while creating high-quality, transit-oriented developments and healthy communities.
