Smart Growth America is seeking an enthusiastic intern for advocacy work with LOCUS: Responsible Real Estate Developers and Investors. The intern will provide direct support to the LOCUS network of real estate developers and investors advocating for smart growth policies at the federal and regional levels. Core responsibilities include: drafting legislative summaries for network members, organizing Hill briefings and meetings, drafting advocacy materials on core network issues, managing correspondence with network members, following up with and providing materials to potential recruits, and assisting the President of LOCUS with scheduling and general administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements
This position require a self-motivated and detail-oriented person with excellent communication, writing and organizational skills. The candidate should be highly computer literate with specific experience or a willingness to learn database management, new policy topics, and work in a hands-on environment. Candidates must have exemplary research and writing skills. Familiarity with, as well as strong interest in, smart growth, transportation, economic development, social equity, or redevelopment is a plus. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
Compensation, Location and Time Frame
Start and end dates and work hours are flexible based on the intern’s schedule. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between Smart Growth America and the intern’s college or university. All interns are subject to the organization’s applicable employee rules.
The internship stipend will be based on the following schedule: Full time (25 or more hours a week): $300 per semester, part time (10-24 hours a week): $150 per semester. This position is based in Washington, DC.
