Form-Based Codes: Courses and Webinars

The Form-Based Codes Institute at Smart Growth America has developed a three-course curriculum of one introductory and two advanced courses on form-based codes.

The introductory course (101) provides a basic yet comprehensive understanding of form-based codes—their history, components, legal underpinnings, and case studies illustrating common applications. The advanced courses (201/301), which may be taken in either order, teach advanced skills in code creation and implementation, and include “hands on” interactive exercises. FBCI awards a certificate of completion to individuals who complete all three. In addition, graduates of the three-course series are invited to join our CodeTalk listserv for ongoing discussions among themselves and instructors.

Our three courses:

FBC101: The ABCs of Form-Based Codes (Registration for our Fall 2022 class is now closed.)

FBC201: Placemaking & Design

FBC301: Adoption & Administration

FBCI instructors are nationally prominent form-based coding practitioners, professionals in the fields of planning, architecture, urban design, and land use law. Read our course descriptions and sponsorship options.

(Planetizen also offers an online version of our FBC101 course for self-paced learning.)

Webinars

FBCI’s webinars offer an excellent overview and insights into the intricacies of form-based coding. We have grouped the recorded webinars into three educational series for planners, designers and community leaders. We continue to produce new webinars as well. More info to come.
